“I structured JMG so I can provide every aspect of creating and developing a player. I believe that the combination of Individual and Group program is the key. I know there are plenty of tennis academies around, but I personally wouldn’t put my own child into any of them. I see too many numbers, very little intensity and care. My goal is give kids the opportunity in an optimal training structure. If you use it wisely, the results will come.” - Joseph GilbertFounder of JMG Tennis Academy
THE JMG PHILOSOPHY
Most junior tennis academies focus on the quantity of group hours, JMG Tennis focuses on creating a specific individual custom program which is tailored to the players needs so he/she has the best opportunity to succeed. The time it takes to master the style of play, disciple the habits, explain and learn the philosophy, teach the technique and develop the mental toughness is all a process and journey.
The Individual Program is designed and customized for the highest level of dedicated players. The program starts with 3-5 hours of private time per week. Players will also have access to unlimited group practices, personal meetings on progress, recommendation on tournament scheduling, and consultation about future plans. We try to involve and inform parents as much as we can, but we also believe in the relationship between coach and student. Coaches will attend 6 tournaments a year of any player in the individual program and meet with parents a minimum of twice a year.
CUSTOM INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMS
We have worked hard to structure the group practices based on our strong belief that it is important to have an excellent coaching staff, 2 hours of intense drilling, competitive play, physical conditioning and mental toughness. We reinforced the rule of having no more than 4 kids on the court and always having coaches working with/watching kids who are participating. Having more players on the court takes away the intensity and the attention that is needed for each individual. We keep our numbers small and select to continue providing "quality over quantity" type of service.
ACADEMY PRACTICE HOURS

Physical training has become an essential part in the development of high-level junior tennis players. Tennis has become an ultra physical game over the years and JMG Tennis focuses on several main components when working with its players.
First, flexibility and injury prevention is the number one priority for us. Keeping a player healthy is a key to the progression in their game. Second, is stamina. Junior tennis is similar to competing in a marathon. Junior tournaments are scheduled, where players could be playing 6 to 8 sets in one day. Players must have the stamina to finish a tournament if they want to be able to win the tournament! Lastly, strengthening the core and leg muscles is critically important. By strengthening these two muscle groups, we will improve the player’s rotation, speed, and balance.
Unfortunately, tennis is one of the few sports where it is common to see coaches not watch their players compete on a regular basis. Many of the mental situations which players typically face can’t be reproduced in practice. Such as a coach being able to talk to a player before the match when the nerves are high, and between sets when there is more of the battle left to be played, and after a match when the emotions are at their highest.
These significant and critical times are invaluable lessons for the players and the coaches! These moments are what build trust between player and coach. Players can learn from a win or a loss, and the coach gets to learn how their player manages many different competitive situations.
One of the main differences between amateur and professional athletes is having the ability to perform at the highest level on a consistent basis. The key factor here is consistency, which is only achieved through mastering mental toughness attaining exceptionally high levels of confidence, intrinsic motivation, concentration/focus, persistence, and commitment, to just name a few.
Only once you have managed to take complete control of your mind will you be able to eliminate the mental roadblocks that prevent you from becoming the best that you can be. Our sport psychologist can help you gain the mental edge that will allow you to consistently compete to your ultimate potential. A complete psychological skills training program can be implemented just for you using any of the following methods: one-on-one face interaction, telephone, or via skype.

The majority of our high school courses have been approved by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the University of California (UC).
NCAA approved courses are an important factor when evaluating online high schools for athletes. Most college athletic programs are regulated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), an organization with rules and regulations on eligibility, recruiting, and financial aid. Colleges and universities are members of a division according to the size and scope of their athletic programs. Laurel Springs can help with academic planning for students who wish to pursue athletics at Division I or II colleges, as most of our courses are NCAA approved. Not all online high schools have NCAA approved courses, due to the high academic expectations associated with NCAA approval. Laurel Springs has a variety of resources to educate students about NCAA procedures. Our School Counseling Department has NCAA specialists on staff to help answer questions about the eligibility process.
Laurel Springs School is a valued partner of over 100 elite junior sports academies across the United States and internationally. Having the unique ability to deliver a strong, challenging curriculum yet also provide the elite junior athlete with the flexibility needed to excel in their sport of choice is why the most reputable sports academies in the country select Laurel Springs School as their online education partner.
