Dear Member,
We have received much feedback on our efforts to provide the same level of service within the ever changing regulatory landscape of 2020, and we are grateful that our efforts have been viewed as successful. While this year has provided many challenges, we are uniquely positioned to continue providing a wide variety of services under the current statewide blueprint for combating COVID-19. Sacramento County is currently assigned a color code of purple, the strictest tier in their spectrum. Even so, our expansive grounds and vast facilities allow us to adapt quite naturally even under the strictest regulations.
The following are a few updates we would like to share with you:
- The covered Members Garage will be temporarily converted for use as the new location for the Fitness Experience, and will be expanded with additional gym equipment. This move will provide additional space for expanded offerings and shelter from the elements while continuing to allow for social distancing.
- Chavoor Outdoor Dining & Chavoor Take Away have been well received as we work to increase availability and menu offerings. If you haven’t already, download the Arden Hills app (available on IOS and Android), login, and select Dining for outdoor dining reservations, or Grab & Go for Chavoor Take Away to get started.
- We’re in the planning stages of our member favorite Spooktacular and Brunch with Santa experiences! This year we will be posting updates to our member portal showcasing a bit of what goes in to planning our most popular experiences at Arden Hills, outdoors!
- We were pleased to see so many Members utilizing the Golf Experience during the recent decrease in outdoor air quality. Our AboutGolf simulators have received software and hardware updates to increase the speed and responsiveness of the system to further improve your experience.
- We are working on some exciting developments in our Aquatics Program! Keep a look out for these emails to receive additional updates!

We’re pleased to announce the re-opening of the Fitness Pavilion on June 17th. Sometime this week you will see a new area for reservation become available within the online portal and mobile app titled Fitness Experience which will allow you to reserve use of the Fitness Pavilion for up to three days in advance. The reservation system will assist in maintaining building occupancy recommendations from the California Department of Public Health. Until the Fitness Experience area appears within the app and member portal, we will simply limit the number of check-ins at the Concierge. Notice will be sent out when this update occurs. Club hours will also be expanded to Monday through Friday 6:00am to 7:00pm, and Saturday: 7:00am to 7:00pm.
Below is a quick reminder of areas of the club where reservation availability will continue to expand throughout the month of June.

- Beginning June 2nd member’s guest privileges will resume.
- Beginning the week of June 15th, cabana/lounge reservations will be available around the pool areas.

- We also expect our award-winning Spa at Arden Hills to reopen by the week of June 29th.
- Though we do not yet know the date, the Fitness Pavilion is expected to reopen mid-June, with Adult Athletic Classes, and Outdoor/Indoor Athletic Classes available by reservation near the end of June. Once the fitness pavilion opens, cardio equipment will be available on a reservation basis. The reservation system will also automatically limit the number of members in the weight room at any given time. With the opening of the Fitness Pavilion, days and hours of operation are also expected to expand.
All members who have already chosen to be reactivated by May 1st or June 1st will be automatically reactivated once the Fitness Pavilion opens in June. The prorated amount will be added to your July statement. All other memberships will be reactivated on July 1st. If you chose July 1st or did not respond to our survey, you may reactivate sooner by simply making a reservation via the online member portal or mobile app (please follow this guide if you are logging in for the first time). Your membership will be reactivated on the date of your first reservation in the month of June. An outline of our sanitation procedures will be posted soon here on this page.
The Arden Hills club model has been built upon the principle that complimentary services work synergistically to provide a superior level of member facilities and offerings. These complimentary services supplement dues and allow the Club to limit the size of the overall membership in order to maintain a more peaceful and serene environment. The most significant complimentary service is the hundreds of weddings and events hosted by the Club annually. Not only does this service supplement member dues but it also provides the infrastructure that allows Arden Hills to provide a variety of very special and unique member events throughout the year. This important service has also been affected by the pandemic shutdown. As a result of the shutdown, there is a backlog of postponed events. To fulfill these events, the Club will need to occasionally make use of outdoor areas that are normally reserved for members since some restrictions on indoor space will likely continue for the next few months. The impact should be relatively minimal and will be clearly communicated through the reservation system. Since the Club is currently closed on Sundays, the Club will work to shift many of these backlogged events to Sundays to help further minimize conflicts.
For over 65 years Arden Hills has established an athletic and social heritage of excellence and has been the premier location for relaxation and rejuvenation. We are so grateful for the overwhelming support of our members, and we look forward to serving you again.

Beginning May 12th, Arden Hills will open some facilities on a limited schedule to members only. The facilities will be open to those members who have a reservation for the following areas:
- Tennis Courts: Members may reserve a court for singles or doubles.
- Swimming Lap Lanes: Members may reserve a lane for LAP swimming only, one per lane.
- Golf Simulators: Members may reserve Tee Times using their own clubs for 2 players on simulators 1 & 3, and 4 players on simulator 2.
- The Villas: Available for reservations for Members and guests.
Reservations may be made for any member 12 years old or older. Those younger than 12, and those youth under the age of 18 making reservations for golf, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Member’s accounts will be reactivated upon first use of any member on the account. Because services will initially be limited or unavailable, F&B minimums will not accrue throughout this 2nd quarter.
Members will enter through the main Social Pavilion entrance and check-in and check-out at the Concierge. Members are asked to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to their reservation and leave no later than 30 minutes after. The adult locker rooms and towel service will initially not be available. Please bring your own towel at least until the end of the month. The Fitness Pavilion will remain closed, but we are cautiously optimistic that it may open as early as June 1st.
Members will only be allowed entry with a reservation. Reservations may be made using the Arden Hills website or the new mobile app. Instructions for the new app will follow. Reservations can be made beginning Monday, May 11th via the website or app. Reservations can be made via phone Tuesday – Saturday from 10am – 3pm beginning May 12th. For the month of May, club hours available for reservations are: Tuesday – Friday: 6am to 7pm and Saturday 7am – 7pm.
Members have asked how their fellow members responded to the recent reactivation questionnaire. Responses were as follows:
- Reactivate as early as May 1st: 51%
- Reactivate as early as June 1st: 20%
- Reactivate as early as July 1st: 29%
Member’s responses to our questionnaire have provided a helpful framework through which the Club can plan the reopening more effectively. During this initial limited opening only members who use the Club will be reactivated. Once the Fitness Pavilion reopens, members who have indicated their desired return date will automatically be reactivated once their date arrives. For example, if the Fitness Pavilion reopens June 1st, then all those who indicated that their desired return date was as early as May 1st or June 1st will automatically be reactivated. All others will be reactivated on July 1st.
We look forward to seeing you again.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will the full facilities be restored upon reopening- food services, gym, pools, etc.? If not, will my F&B minimum continue to accrue?
- Answer – It is the Club’s intention to open most if not all of the facilities, but services will be restored over a period of weeks. For this reason, F&B minimums will not accrue during the second quarter.
- If we choose option 1 but the club does not reopen until June 1st or July 1st, what will we be charged in May or June?
- Answer – The On-Hold dues rate.
- Since I have paid annually will I receive a credit while on-hold?
- Answer – Annual dues payers will receive a credit for the difference between active status and On-Hold status less any discounts received.
- How can I choose any of the Club’s current options since it depends on when the stay-at-home order has been lifted?
- Answer – The Club is providing information regarding its current plan so that members can make informed decisions with knowledge of the Club’s intentions. Currently, the Club plans to reopen on the earliest possible date, between May 1st and July 1st, 2020. On July 1st, 2020 all memberships will automatically be reactivated. Members who have chosen to remain on hold up to that date yet do not wish to be fully reactivated at that time may choose to:
1) Place their membership on hold for no less than 1 year from that date or 2) Give a 30 day written notice to cancel their membership at that time.
If these options are not acceptable, then you may cancel in writing by April 30th, 2020, to receive a refund of dues back to March 18th, 2020, the first day of closing.

Members who have chosen to remain on hold up to that date yet do not wish to be fully reactivated at that time may choose to:
- What happens if the club is not given permission to open by the State or restrictions by the State make it impossible for the Club to operate?
- Answer- Most members and employees are anxious to return to Club activity as soon as possible. We are currently planning for reopening. We cannot control the actions of government leaders. Their actions have affected and will continue to affect Club plans and the plans of our members with greater consequences each day that the shutdown continues and could result in the indefinite or even permanent closure of the club. We are currently about halfway into our 100-day plan from the date of closure. As we approach July 1, 2020, we will be prepared with a plan in the event that it appears the Club will be unable to open or operate effectively. If the Club is unable to reopen, all memberships will not be reactivated on July 1, 2020, but will remain on-hold at the on-hold dues rate until the date of reopening. As always plans going forward will be reliant upon the health of the overall membership.
- Question: If the Club reduces operating hours compared to the pre-pandemic Club operating hours, will there be a reduction in my dues?
- Answer: No. Member dues, on their own, are not nearly enough to pay for the vast infrastructure of the Club. For over 60 years Arden Hills has attributed its phenomenal growth to a business model that was built upon synergistic revenue streams from numerous different complimentary services. All of the complimentary services including the Athletic programs, Weddings and Events, the Spa, the Villas and Restaurant & Food Services were completely shut down as a result of the pandemic. Some of these services may not return to their pre-pandemic levels, especially in the near term. As a result, the Club will take a cautious approach as we progress through the reopening. If all or a significant part of these complimentary revenue sources do not eventually return to their pre-pandemic levels, then Member dues will necessarily have to increase. For the time being the Club has determined that the prudent course is to implement cost saving measures such as reduced operating hours and services as we evaluate the long-term effects of the pandemic.

We here at Arden Hills have been diligently preparing for your return. Even though we do not yet know the date of our reopening, barring possible governmental mandates to the contrary, it is currently our intention to reopen at the earliest possible date between May 1st and June 1st. Though we will follow reasonable and lawful public health guidelines, we believe that members can best decide how and in what manner to protect themselves and those around them. We recognize that despite the date of our reopening members will have varying opinions as to when they feel comfortable to return to normal activity; therefore, members may choose from the following:
- I wish to fully reactivate my membership as soon as the Club reopens beginning as early as May 1, 2020. If reopening is later than the first of the month, then dues will be prorated from the date of reopening.
- I wish to fully reactivate my membership no sooner than June 1, 2020. If reopening is later than the first of the month, then dues will be prorated from the date of reopening.
- I wish to fully reactivate my membership as of July 1, 2020. As of this date, all memberships will automatically be fully reactivated.
Since the opening date is still uncertain and reopening will likely include a gradual return to full services, F&B minimums will not accrue during the second quarter (April 1st – June 30th). Click the following link to email your choice to the Concierge, or do so by emailing concierge@ardenhills.net directly. Please clearly designate your choice, by number, from the options above.

We recognize that membership is a choice, and we are very grateful for the strength of our membership base. Nevertheless, we recognize that some members have been more adversely impacted by the current events. To date, significantly less than 1% of our members have found it necessary to cancel their membership due to their circumstances. For those few members that find it necessary to cancel they may do so in writing by April 30, 2020, and receive a refund of dues back to March 18, 2020, the date of closing. After April 30, 2020 cancelations will continue to require a 30-day written notice before the membership is terminated and dues cease to accrue. Those that cancel and wish to return will be required to pay a new initiation fee and the then-current monthly dues rate.

Dear Member,
We hope and pray that you and your family are doing well in this extraordinary worldwide situation. As with all of you, the events that have enveloped us came suddenly and with little notice. Clubs of the caliber of Arden Hills are built and sustained by the strength of their membership base. Arden Hills recognized early on that the Club needed to take steps quickly to protect the health and safety of our members and their guests and to mitigate ongoing costs for our members during the temporary shutdown. As such, we chose immediately to temporarily forego the normal requirement during partial or full shutdowns for members to pay their full regular monthly dues. We recognize that membership is a choice, and it was our desire to mitigate the cost to members during this shutdown so that the Arden Hills membership base may remain strong.
On March 17th we announced that if the shutdown continued beyond March 31st, all members, current on their account, would be converted to an on-hold status as of April 1st, 2020 until the date of reopening. On-hold status reduces dues to one-third of their regular monthly amount and maintains each member’s current membership flight and dues rate. This temporarily reduced dues revenue will help pay part of the minimized operating costs of the Club and help preserve the beauty of the Club for your return. In addition, any food and beverage minimums for the first quarter will be rolled over to the second quarter. Canceled memberships are required to pay a new initiation fee at the time of rejoining and will reenter at the then-current membership flight and dues rate.
As you know the situation is fluid. We are currently planning for the next 30 – 60 days as we await the authorization to reopen by local and state authorities. We unite with you in our hope and confidence that this will pass and we will soon be allowed to return to our normal lives and normal Club operations. Meanwhile, we are working hard to ensure the Club is prepared and beautiful when you return.

Dear Member,
According to guidance provided by the California Department of Public Health to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Arden Hills will be temporarily closed starting at 7pm tonight, March 17th, through at least March 31st. We will re-evaluate and publish more information when it’s available.
If the closure continues beyond the end of the month, all members current on their account will be placed on an on-hold status as of April 1st until the Club reopens. On-Hold Membership accounts maintain their current membership status and are charged one-third the regular monthly dues. The customary time requirement to remain On-Hold for 1 year will be temporarily suspended for this unprecedented situation.
We will use the time during the closure to complete needed refurbishment and updates to the facility and begin to plant our award-winning flower displays in preparation for reopening.
We appreciate you, and we hope the best for you and your family and look forward to your swift return.
